Thanks for taking the time to do this post. People ask me about RSS and I honestly can't think of anything besides Google Reader. This'll get referenced.

@Melanie,

Thanks for the clarification. Sometimes it's hard to explain technical things in non-technical terms. :)

I knew about the Google Reader extension, but the link is kind of buried on the PostRank site. Thanks for highlighting that.

Hi Megan,

Thanks for including us in such fine company. :)

Just as a clarification so folks aren't disappointed, postrank.com and its features aren't really an RSS reader themselves, nor are they meant to be. They're intended to work with your reader to save you time and help you Read What Matters, as we like to say.

PostRank uses online social engagement with content to filter and rank it, so in the feeds you're subscribed to, you can see what others have engaged with -- leaving comments, tweeting, bookmarking, etc. -- and if you choose, based on that, determine what's worth your time to keep up with. More on that: http://www.postrank.com/postrank

Folks can import their feeds into postrank.com manually or by OPML file and filter them by PostRank score and keyword, and use tags to organize groups of feeds, even aggregate them into one larger feed. That feed, or all the individuals, can then be exported to the person's favourite feed reader, with all the noise automatically filtered out.

Or, for folks already using Google Reader, you can get the PostRank filtering built right in with our Google Reader Extension: http://gr.postrank.com.

Hope that all makes sense. :)

@Xavier,

I use RSS to avoid email alerts, so something like that would be pretty cool. Most of the time, Twitter scrolls by and I don't care if I miss things. But to track conferences and other events, this would be a pretty cool tool.
