BTW, check out our new-and-improved http://latimes.com/twitter page -- we're now up to 179 @latimes-related accounts.

We're also incorporating more live tweet-streams like the one on that page into the new-look latimes.com

[blushing] Thank you Daniel, very kind words. Are you pitching any SXSW panels this year?

I hope to make it down to Austin for the first time this coming March.

Andrew has a great news mind and tremendous instincts for the social web.

He's the right person at the right place, at the right time, and the Times is lucky to have him.

Linda,

Congrats on publishing the first official photo of my son. He's not allowed to watch TV but is mesmerized by both my laptop and my blackberry, so we're guessing he may well end up becoming some sort of hybrid Web 5.0+ techno-journalist.

Here are a few more relevant links to add to your post:

- LAT Readers' Representative Journal blog post announcing my new position: http://latimes.com/sm

- LAT Blogs directory: http://latimes.com/blogs (with latest headlines)

- Knight Digital Media Center News Leadership 3.0 post by @sjcobrien : http://tinyurl.com/kdmc-lat

- http://latimes.com/facebook - We're still evaluating whether to focus on a central, "official" Facebook presence or to decentralize and focus more on building individual reporter + section/topic pages. Facebook's recent layout changes have us leaning towards the latter.

- http://latimes.com/tweets - An account that only follows 90+ @latimes-related Twitter accounts (a fine reader suggestion for how to make them easier to find)

- http://twitter.com/latimesgoodnews - The latest great reader-generated idea, which I'm very excited about: The aim is to publish at least one *positive* headline a day, and not necessarily from latimes.com -- please share your story retweet ideas!

Thanks again for taking the time to share a bit about what the LA Times is up to,
~ Andrew / @latimesnystrom

I think this is a great idea -- to have a dedicated person in charge of new and emerging media. As with many things, if everyone owns it, no one does. Some one needs to be in charge of it, to ensure that others on the staff get the latest information, get support if they need it, the newspaper is engaged.
