Kent Fischer debuts new feature to hoist user comments

Last week, I wrote about hoisting comments, and how it can be a community building tool.

Kent Fischer, one of the beat bloggers who had already hoisted comments, has launched a new weekly feature, "Comment of the Week," dedicated to the best comment of the previous week:

We’re starting a new Monday feature today where we’ll honor, with extra
special attention, the *best* reader-written comment we received from
the previous week. Call it the Golden COW Award, short for the Comment
of the Week.

This is a great, little, easy weekly feature that can help make users feel more connected to a blog (or a news site). Users often leave insightful comments. When hoisted, they can be another conversation starter.

About BeatBlogging.org

BeatBlogging.org was a grant-funded journalism project that studied how journalists used social media and other Web tools to improve beat reporting. It ran for about two years, ending in the fall of 2009.

New content is occasionally produced here by the this project's former editor Patrick Thornton. The site is still up and will remain so because many journalists and professors still use and link to the content. BeatBlogging.org offers a fascinating glimpse into the former stages of journalism and social media. Today it's expected that journalists and journalism organization use social media, but just a few years ago that wasn't the case.
